2024 Kia Telluride

2024 Kia Telluride Review
The Telluride is an impressive three-row SUV. It boasts a quiet and luxurious cabin, impressive technology, extensive standard features, adult-friendly third-row seating, and a satisfying driving experience. It has some minor flaws, but overall this Kia is a great choice for a three-row crossover SUV.

Excess

The luxurious ride and well-shaped seats offer all-day comfort
Spacious interior for large families
Plenty of standard technology and safety features are worth the money
The driver assistance features work well and are easy to use

What's new

Minor changes to exterior styling
Part of the first generation Telluride introduced in 2020
Summary
Since its debut for the 2020 model year, the Kia Telluride has been a popular choice for many people shopping for a three-row midsize SUV. It provides plenty of comfort and spaciousness and has even earned an Edmunds Top Rated award every year since. This is no small feat as most vehicles will eventually be overtaken by new competitors. But every time a new competitor emerged to challenge the Telluride, it failed.

Last year, the Telluride underwent the most significant refresh in its short history, with updated styling, rugged new trim levels, and improved driver assistance features. 2024 brings some more styling changes, although none of last year's major design updates are undone.

This may also apply to the 2024 Telluride. But as part of your car shopping, you might want to take a look at the related Hyundai Palisade. It has a lot in common with the Kia but exudes a more luxurious personality. Other worthy alternatives include the all-new Mazda CX-90 and the recently redesigned Honda Pilot. Read our Expert Ratings below for our full report on the Telluride's comfort, cargo space, and more.
2024 Kia Telluride Enginering

What is it like to live together?

For a more accurate ownership experience, Edmunds added the 2020 Kia Telluride SX V6 AWD to its long-term test fleet. In the time spent with our staff, the Telluride proved again and again why it's the best SUV in its class. Check out our impressions of this vehicle and many others used in the real world.

How does the Telluride drive?

The Telluride is a satisfying SUV to drive. The V6 engine is responsive, although acceleration is average for a three-row SUV. In Edmunds testing, our Telluride test vehicle sprinted from 0 to 60 mph in 7.5 seconds, similar to the acceleration of the Honda Pilot and Hyundai Palisade. The brakes are strong and can stop the Telluride quickly. We recorded consistent stops from 60 mph in 123 feet, which is slightly shorter than the class average. The brakes are also easy to control for consistent and smooth stops on the road.

The steering is light at parking lot speeds and the weight increases naturally when cornering. The Telluride is stable when turning around and doesn't exhibit excessive body roll. We also like the engine's fuel-saving stop-start feature, which runs smoothly and quietly. The transmission shifts can be a little rough under hard acceleration, and the transmission can buckle on certain grades, but overall these are fairly minor issues.

How comfortable is the Telluride? The Telluride is quite comfortable. The seats are supportive and nicely contoured, with almost pillow-like headrests. Noise from outside barely penetrates inside, making the luxury car's cabin quiet even at freeway speeds. Engine noise is present, but never intrusive or intrusive. For a three-row SUV, the Telluride generally rides smoothly, although it can be a little rough on uneven pavement. The off-road-oriented X-Pro is also surprisingly good on pavement, providing a layer of ride comfort and isolation from potholes and road seams.

The climate control system is easy to use and regulates temperatures correctly in all three rows. While seat heating and ventilation aren't the strongest on the market, it's nice to see them available for both first and second-row passengers.
2024 Kia Telluride Exterior

What about fuel savings?

EPA-estimated fuel economy on the all-wheel-drive Telluride is slightly below average at 21 mpg combined (19 city/24 highway). On the plus side, our test Telluride achieved about 23 mpg on a 115-mile mixed driving evaluation route, indicating that the EPA numbers are realistic. You can run the V6 on regular gas, unlike some rival SUVs that require premium fuel to return their rated power and fuel economy figures.

Is the Telluride a good value?

The Telluride is probably the best value in its class for what you get. At each price point, you get a little extra, from the driving experience to the interior to the standard and available features. And in top trims, you get an almost luxurious experience. Overall, we were very impressed with the quality of the Telluride. You also get Kia's impressive 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty.

It looks like Kia tried hard for a "baby Land Rover" feel and succeeded without the Telluride looking like a knockoff. It's luxury bargained for in a good way, and Telluride's space, design, and driving experience are a step above the competition.
2024 Kia Telluride Dashboard

How is the interior?

The Telluride offers a very roomy, upscale-feeling cabin with easy access to all three rows. Passenger space is excellent in the second and third rows. The room feels more open thanks to the many large windows. Only the front passenger's knee room is a bit tight.

Controls are clearly labeled and logically grouped. Kia has repositioned the touchscreen closer to the driver, making the extra-long reach a thing of the past. Visibility is excellent thanks to the many large windows. A camera system and parking sensors are useful additions.

How is the technology?

All Tellurides come with a variety of collision avoidance and mitigation systems as well as adaptive cruise control that operates right up to a stop. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration is also standard, and plenty of USB ports are spread across all three rows, although only one can transmit data. Wireless smartphone connectivity is still non-existent. The standard 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen is mounted in a housing that places it right next to the gauge cluster. This gives all trim levels a large view that's easy to reach from the driver's seat.

SX models and above also get a matching 12.3-inch instrument cluster screen. A larger instrument cluster display makes the blind spot display system more useful. The previous screen was only 7 inches and was small and pixelated, but the new screen looks much clearer and works well when combined with the blind spot warning system to provide useful information to the driver. Kia's Highway Driving Assist system is great. It accelerates and decelerates smoothly while keeping the Telluride in the center of its lane without ping-ponging from side to side.

How is it stored?

Cargo space is generous, with 21 cubic feet behind the third row and 87 cubes with both rows folded. The hatch opening is wide and accommodating, and there's a useful underfloor compartment too. With a maximum towing capacity of 5,000 pounds, the Telluride is right up there with the class leaders.

Storage of small items is a weakness. While there are several options for organizing small items, there is much less space for small personal items than in some competitors. Have small children? Child safety seats are easy to install, and car seat anchors are easy to find.
2024 Kia Telluride Pictures
Like last year, the SX trim gets our recommendation. In addition to the digital instrument panel, you also get additional safety features like updated adaptive cruise control and a Harman Kardon premium audio system.

2023 Kia Sportage Hybrid

2023 Kia Sportage Hybrid Review
The Kia Sportage Hybrid delivers in almost every aspect. Ride quality is excellent, the interior is roomy, and the rear hatch opens into a spacious cargo area. There's some clever interior storage up front as well as plenty of available in-car technology and a comprehensive suite of driver aids. Fuel economy doesn't live up to expectations, but we have a few complaints about this electrified compact crossover.

Excess

Roomy and quiet cabin
Comfortable ride quality
High fuel economy for a small SUV
More cargo space than most of its competitors
Counter

What's new

Kia's compact hybrid SUV has been completely redesigned
It's bigger and loaded with more technology than the previous model
The first Sportage with a hybrid powertrain
Launching the fifth generation Sportage for 2023

Summary

The Kia Sportage was completely redesigned for the 2023 model year, and for the first time, a hybrid model is available. This is the brand's third hybrid SUV, sitting above the smaller Niro hybrid and below the larger Sorento Hybrid. Looking at it, most people wouldn't mistake this for a Sportage as it looks nothing like the previous model and the interior is a huge improvement over the previous model. This compact SUV is larger, offering more passenger and cargo space. Its load now offers more space than the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid and Honda CR-V Hybrid.

Under the hood is a fuel-efficient hybrid powertrain consisting of a 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine mated to an electric motor, hybrid battery pack, and six-speed automatic transmission. The total system output is 227 horsepower, slightly more than you'll find in the CR-V Hybrid (204 hp) and RAV4 Hybrid (219 hp). Front-wheel-drive models get an impressive combined EPA estimate of 43 mpg, and all-wheel-drive models are rated at 38 mpg.

The new Sportage's interior has a very modern look thanks to a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel combined with a 12.3-inch touchscreen. Both displays share the same curved housing, giving the impression that this is one large, continuous display. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay smartphone integration are standard, and a wireless charging pad and a new surround-view camera system are optional. Kia hasn't forgotten about safety and equipped the Sportage with an impressive array of standard advanced driver aids like lane keeping assist, and if that wasn't enough, there's a long list of additional tech features like navigation-based adaptive cruise. a control system that can slow down before a corner.

When it comes to comfort, the new Sportage Hybrid has you covered.

The interior provides ample space for all passengers, and the rear seats have a class-leading 41.3 inches of legroom. The seats are comfortable and provide solid support, and the interior is quiet when cruising fast. Ride quality is smooth as the suspension effectively masks most road imperfections. The hybrid powertrain has strong acceleration and feels faster than the non-hybrid model.

There's a lot to like about the All-New Sportage Hybrid, making it a great choice for a compact hybrid SUV. In addition to competing with the RAV4 Hybrid and CR-V Hybrid, it also competes with the Escape Hybrid and its Hyundai counterpart, the Tucson Hybrid. Check out our test team's Expert Ratings below to help you decide which hybrid SUV is best for you.
2023 Kia Sportage Hybrid Exterior

How does the Sportage Hybrid ride?

The Sportage Hybrid is one of the fastest hybrid crossovers in its class.

While we wouldn't call it a great car, it doesn't feel like there's a performance penalty when you choose a hybrid. The turbocharged engine provides smooth power, and you won't feel it when the Sportage switches from electric to gas power. Highway driving is easy thanks to the power and quick, if somewhat clunky, gear changes.

It's not sporty, but the Sportage handles pretty well for a crossover. The steering is fast and accurate. Light in comfort makes parking easy. Switching to Sport increases steering effort (and sharpens throttle response), but there's still not much feedback. Like the powertrain, the brakes are impressive for a hybrid. The pedal is firm rather than soft and supple like on some other hybrid vehicles.

How comfortable is the Sportage Hybrid?

Comfort is one of the advantages of the Sportage Hybrid. It offers a quiet, comfortable cabin and a smooth ride that won't tire your back after hours behind the wheel. The front seats are soft and provide good lateral support without feeling too firm. The back seat is soft but a bit flat. What's impressive is the ride quality. It's smooth and compliant. The suspension flattens out bumps but doesn't feel overly soft or disconnected from the road. This is one of the best crossovers out there.

Kia also keeps it quiet.

At low speeds when the engine is off, there is little external noise in the cabin. Even at higher speeds, wind, and road noise are mild. We also want you not to feel vibrations or hear the petrol engine running at any time as the exhaust sound is not very pleasant. The automatic climate control system can be a little awkward to use at first (you switch panels between climate control and media/navigation) but it works evenly. The placement of the vents is also good, especially at the back.

How is the interior?

The Sportage Hybrid has a charming and well-appointed interior. The driving position offers a decent range of adjustment for the seats and steering wheel, and there's excellent passenger room in both rows, even for tall adults. Getting in and out is also quite easy, aided by the available Smart Park feature, although this is new.

The controls are easy to reach and fairly easy to use, at least once you find the buttons that swap climate control for media and navigation controls. The driving position offers a decent range of adjustment as far as the seat and steering wheel. The infotainment screen and other controls are tilted towards the driver, so nothing is difficult to press or operate. The rearview mirrors and windows provide decent visibility, aided further by the available blind-spot camera system. The available heated windshield will also help in colder climates.
2023 Kia Sportage Hybrid Pictures

How is the technology?

Like most crossovers in this class, Kia offers plenty of in-car technology and driver assistance with the Sportage. Standard features include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (though neither is wireless) and a large number of USB-A and -C ports in both rows. Our test vehicle was equipped with a wireless charging pad as well as a 12.3-inch screen for the instrument cluster and infotainment system. The navigation is easy to operate, and you can use voice commands to enter directions or change radio stations.

The Sportage is available with a multitude of driver aids, including adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, a surround-view monitor, and park assist. We like how it works in practice. Adaptive Cruise kept a good distance without constantly hitting the brakes, and we didn't get any false alerts with any of the collision systems. Smart Park will pull the Sportage out or into a parking spot from the key fob. This is a neat party trick.

How is it stored?

This is where the Sportage Hybrid excels. With 39.5 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row and 73.7 cubes with the rows folded, the Sportage Hybrid is one of the roomiest crossovers in this class, hybrid or not. Unlike some of its competitors, the Sportage Hybrid doesn't lose out on space compared to its non-hybrid counterparts. The load floor is wide and flat, and the rear seats fold down from the hatch. The rear seats have LATCH car seat anchors and are roomy enough for larger car seats.

Storage in the rest of the cabin is also excellent.

The center console has a small, hooded cubby in front of the shifter that houses a USB port and wireless pad, though it's big enough for more than just a phone. The cup holder is great and can be saved to make another container and reassembled with the push of a button. This is great if you always use a cup holder for your phone or sunglasses.

What about fuel savings?

The Sportage Hybrid with all-wheel drive has an estimated fuel economy rating of 38 mpg city, highway, and combined. The front-wheel-drive base model does even better, with 43 mpg combined. Unfortunately, our AWD model only got 34.5 mpg on a 115-mile Edmunds evaluation loop. That said, it's a highway-based route, and most of its competitors also underperformed in Edmunds testing. We saw better fuel economy in daily driving around town where the Sportage could make better use of its hybrid powertrain.
2023 Kia Sportage Hybrid Interior

Is the Sportage Hybrid a good value?

The Sportage Hybrid is one of the most affordable hybrid crossovers on the market, although it doesn't feel cheap or cheap from the inside. Even our loaded test vehicle undercut most of its competitors when matched feature for feature. Build quality is excellent, with a nice interior design and nicer upholstery than you'd expect from this class. Front-wheel drive is standard, although all-wheel drive is available. There's a decent array of standard technology and more to choose from on higher trims.

Kia offers a five-year/60,000-mile basic warranty but covers the entire powertrain and battery alone for 10 years/100,000 miles. It was an extraordinary thing that no one else could match. Kia also includes roadside assistance for five years/60,000 miles

The Sportage Hybrid is fast enough for its class, but it's not the most entertaining crossover to drive. The handling isn't bad, but the steering, suspension, and brakes are tuned for comfort, not making for twisty roads. That said, the Sportage looks sharp. The exterior design, especially the front, is very striking. We applaud Kia for offering affordable matte paint, which does a lot of good.

Which Sportage Hybrid does Edmunds recommend?

Unless you want the most efficient model, we recommend going with the mid-level EX trim. It features simulated leather upholstery and heated front seats and adds more technology including a large 12.3-inch touchscreen and a wireless charging pad. All-wheel drive is also included. You also have the option to add the EX Premium package, which adds a panoramic sunroof, hands-free liftgate, and sharper-looking LED interior lighting.

2024 Kia EV9 GT

2024 Kia EV9 GT Review
The 2024 Kia EV9 is the three-row SUV you probably want because you've never seen anything like it. Entering a completely new segment, Kia is the first in the non-luxury three-row electric SUV segment. Yes, it's a stretch, but the more you experience the EV9 GT-Line, the more you realize how cool it is to drive.

The Telluride is cool too, but the EV9 tries to tap into that SUV territory as a trendy Kia with cachet. There's still room for both three-row SUVs in Kia's lineup as the EV9 is expected to start $20,000 above the base Telluride.

Pricing is just the beginning of the 2024 Kia EV9 story. Our 2024 EV9 GT-Line AWD test SUV met the high standards set by the Telluride in many ways while crushing it in 0-60 mph acceleration.

2024 Kia EV9 GT Side view

Are we there yet?

Everything used to be very simple. For example, Telluride offers one engine with FWD or AWD. With the electric EV9, there are some more relevant specifications. The 2024 EV9 is offered with RWD or AWD and in several different power levels. The base EV9 RWD model is rated at 215 hp from a single motor, while the long-range-only model combines a 201 hp motor setup with a larger, nearly 100 kWh battery. Kia estimates a driving range of 300 miles from this Light Long Range model, which is the longest model in the lineup.

Take an EV9 AWD like our GT-Line test SUV, and you'll get 379 hp and up to 516 lb-ft of torque. In other words, we timed the big Kia to hit 60 mph from a standstill in 4.5 seconds. That's 1.4 seconds quicker than the top-of-the-line Toyota Grand Highlander Max hybrid and 2.4 seconds quicker than the 2023 Kia Telluride.

Fast. But Is It Sporty?

Driving the EV9 GT-Line, it's clear that Kia isn't trying to build an electric SUV as sporty as the EV6 GT but with a third row of seating. While the EV9 GT may still be in development, for now, we have the EV9 GT-Line, whose response strikes a balance between sports and luxury cruisers. This is a great place. The quiet ride quality is a plus, although you will feel a fair amount of body roll. This, combined with the blocky styling visible from the driver's seat, provides a more relaxed and purposeful driving style.

2024 Kia EV9 GT Back
Additionally, several MotorTrend editors found that the EV9 GT-Line's input encourages sportier responses on winding roads thanks to its direct steering and low center of gravity.

Regardless, for a vehicle that's about 850 pounds heavier than the Telluride, the EV9 GT-Line has good panic braking performance. From 60 to 0 mph, the EV9 covered 118 feet, which bested the Grand Highlander Max and Telluride's 123 feet in our testing. In the real world, the EV9 offers intuitive, easy-to-use one-pedal driving.

Whether you approach the EV9 GT-Line based on its hype or based on MotorTrend's as-tested numbers, there's a lot to like about the way it drives. And that's saying something considering that until Hyundai, Ford, and others entered the field, the EV9 was the only non-luxury option that was fully electric.

2024 Kia EV9 GT Exterior

Pros and cons

Comfort is a big issue for three-row SUVs, and the range concerns some people feel with electric cars may be an issue here. Your normal driving habits will determine whether this is a problem. The range of the 2024 EV9 GT-Line is estimated at 243 miles. That's not great, but other EV9 AWD models can get up to 270 miles, which is… better.

Like all EVs, the advantage of the EV9 is that it saves you time in your weekly routine. Yes, the Telluride can go more than 100 additional miles on a full tank, but we've never heard of a Telluride owner refueling at home. With EV9, you'll never visit a gas station again unless the jackpot is too big to resist. A range of 243 miles in the best conditions would discourage long trips, but Kia tries to compensate with fast-charging capabilities. When you're away from the comfort of a home charger, the EV9 can charge 10 to 80 percent in 24 minutes with a public fast charger.

3 Line Functionality

As a functional three-row SUV, the EV9 easily gets a passing grade. The second-row captain's chairs are comfortable and—like almost all three-row SUVs—the third-row is less so. It's a good place to while away the time while patiently waiting for the (available) electrically operated second-row thrones to move out of the way so you can get out. We appreciate the one-touch functionality, but the cheaper EV9 might fold quicker.

In the back, cargo space doesn't look competitive, but it's in line with gas-powered competitors. The EV9 can hold 20.2 cubic feet of stuff behind the third-row seats, or 43.5 cubes when the third row is folded. On gas, the Telluride can swallow 21 cubic feet behind the third row and 46 cubic feet with the third row folded—and that's without the EV9's front trunk (or trunk).

2024 Kia EV9 GT Interior
The RWD (Light and Light Long Range) trim has a 3.2 cubic foot trunk while the AWD (Wind, Land, GT-Line) trim offers a slimmer 1.8 cubic feet.

However, never mind the front, the real showroom showstopper is the floating center console. From the second row, passengers can easily pull a handle from behind the front center console to reveal a small tray table and deep storage compartment beneath. Neat.

Two Gold Stars

With a mix of capacitive touch buttons and physical controls, the EV9 GT-Line delivers the best blend of futuristic and user-friendly design. However, we still wanted a different place for the start button than awkwardly hidden behind the steering wheel at the base of the gear stalk (think turn signal stalk but lower). Still, in this trim, the EV9 GT-Line does its best to justify what we expect to be a steep price for a mainstream branded three-row SUV before you consider its electric powertrain.

2024 Kia EV9 GT Review
However, the EV9's electric underpinnings are the heart of the car.

This three-row SUV is faster, quieter, and more efficient than any large SUV you've ever driven. Because of its electric powertrain, it may also have the shortest range of any large SUV you're considering.

Kia Ev9 vs Toyota Grand Highlander Hybrid Comparison Test!

Which brings us back to the use case. There's no doubt that the EV9 is a great SUV and we'd love to spend more time with it. However, its range means the Kia may excel in your daily routine but not shine as brightly on family trips. Yes, of course, you can charge when your kids need a bathroom break ( why didn't you go when I asked 10 minutes ago? ). But as we've reported repeatedly, public charging networks are unreliable.

That's why it's good that this impressive Kia can rely on its other strengths like its driving manners and premium interior. Its higher price compared to a gas-powered three-row SUV will limit sales compared to the Telluride, but we suspect enough people interested in the Tesla Model X and Rivian R1S will find what they need in the EV9. Kia gets two gold stars for the EV9: One for its looks and the second for its good performance.

2024 Kia EV9 Review

2024 Kia EV9 Price and Specifications

One of Australia's first seven-seat electric SUVs arriving in showrooms now
The most expensive vehicle Kia has sold in Australia to date
Three models with prices starting at $97,000 (Air), $106,500 (Earth), $121,000 (GT-Line)

Australian pricing and specifications have been released for the Kia EV9 – one of the first seven-seat electric SUVs to be sold locally – as the first deliveries begin to arrive in showrooms.

As expected, prices approach or exceed $100,000 before road costs such as registration, stamp duty, and arbitrary dealer delivery charges are added.

Dealers have been told that the first deliveries of Kia EV9s to arrive in Australia will be the base Air and flagship GT-Line models.

There is a delay in the local arrival of midrange Earth models, which will follow in a few months.

The EV9 isn't the first seven-seat electric SUV to be sold in Australia; The Tesla Model

But it's the biggest seven-seater electric SUV sold in Australia – and the first from a carmaker to feature in the top 5 sellers.
2024 Kia EV9 Pictures
A price range of $97,000 to $121,000 plus on-road costs makes the Kia EV9 the most expensive Kia sold in Australia to date.

The company says it has received interest from customers in wealthier ZIP codes who have never previously owned a Kia.

With only 100 Kia EV9 units arriving nationwide each month next year, Kia dealers expect wait times to range from three to four months.

The Kia EV9 is based on the South Korean automaker's new dedicated electric car platform – not a remake of a petrol-powered SUV – and is the company's largest battery-powered vehicle to date.

Due to its size – and battery capacity – the Kia EV9 is also the heaviest passenger vehicle the company has ever sold, with a weight ranging from 2312kg to 2636kg, putting it in Toyota LandCruiser territory.

2024 Kia Niro

2024 Kia Niro ReviewIn addition to its city-friendly size and affordable starting price, the 2024 Kia Niro offers fashionable styling that is both attractive and classy. The entry-level Niro is powered by a 139-hp 1.6-liter four-cylinder hybrid powertrain that's admittedly a bit cramped, but if you want more power, there's a plug-in-hybrid version with 180 ponies and 33 miles of electric drive. -approximate range. Inside, the Niro's contemporary image continues, with a cabin that's as elegant as its exterior. Kia has used environmentally friendly materials wherever possible, including the upholstery and headliner, the latter using eucalyptus leaves. Road manners are pleasant—if forgettable—but the Niro feels at home in urban environments. If you want to go all-electric, Kia also sells the Niro EV; we review those models separately.

The second-generation Niro hybrid debuts for the 2023 model year, and Kia hasn't made any significant changes to its smallest SUV for 2024. The only change to the Niro's options sheet is the removal of the Fire Orange Metallic paint for the SUV's exterior.

We think the EX Touring trim represents the best value. It comes with several interesting features not available on the base LX trim, including a sunroof, fog lights, rain-sensing windshield wipers, 18-inch wheels, and a larger 10.3-inch infotainment screen. A full EV model is also available, but we reviewed it separately.
2024 Kia Niro Interior

Infotainment and Connectivity

While the Niro's standard infotainment display is an 8.0-inch touchscreen, a larger 10.3-inch infotainment screen is included on all but the base LX trim and features in-dash navigation and SiriusXM satellite radio. Both displays run the latest version of Kia's UVO infotainment system and include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. EX trims and above get a wireless smartphone charging pad, while SX and SX Touring trims ditch the standard six-speaker stereo for a seven-speaker Harman/Kardon setup.

Safety and Driver Assistance Features

Several driver assistance features come standard on all Niro models, including pedestrian detection capability, blind spot monitoring, and lane-keeping assist. A more advanced adaptive cruise control system with lane centering is offered as an option. For more information on Niro crash test results, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) websites. Key safety features include:

Standard forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking
Standard lane departure warning with lane keep assist
Available adaptive cruise control with lane-centering feature
Warranty and Maintenance Coverage
Kia and its sister company, Hyundai, offer one of the most comprehensive vehicle warranties available. A 10-year powertrain warranty is the cornerstone, but they beat the competition almost across the board. The only thing missing—at least for Kia—is free scheduled maintenance.

The limited warranty covers five years or 60,000 miles
The powertrain warranty covers 10 years or 100,000 miles
No free scheduled maintenance
2024 Kia Niro Engine

Engine, Transmission, and Performance

The Niro hybrid is powered by a 139-hp powertrain consisting of a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine and an electric motor. A six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission is standard, and the Niro is offered exclusively with front-wheel drive. The plug-in-hybrid powertrain adds a more powerful electric motor for a combined 180 horsepower. Neither model is particularly exciting to drive, but the plug-in hybrid offers better acceleration, reaching 60 mph in 7.3 seconds on our test track; The standard hybrid reaches 60 mph in a sluggish 8.9 seconds.

Range, Charging, and Battery Life

The plug-in-hybrid variant comes with an 11.1 kWh battery capable of an electric driving range of around 33 miles per charge. Kia says if the car is connected to a Level 2 charger, the battery can be recharged in less than three hours. In our testing, the Niro plug-in hybrid managed 25 miles on the highway on electric power before switching to the gas engine for additional range.

Real World Fuel Economy and MPG

According to the EPA, the Niro hybrid is rated up to 53 mpg in the city and 54 mpg on the highway, but that only applies to the base LX trim. All others are rated for 53 mpg city and 45 mpg highway. On our 75-mph highway fuel economy test route, the Niro hybrid EX Touring managed just 39 mpg; The Niro plug-in hybrid returned 37 mpg in the same test. For more information on the Niro's fuel economy, visit the EPA website.

Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

The sculptural interior design creates a contemporary feel inside the Niro. Kia has used recycled materials and natural fibers such as eucalyptus leaves for the headliner and seats. Passenger space is comfortable, but the Niro is a small crossover and offers enough space for four adults, and a cargo area large enough to hold a large amount of groceries. Ambient interior lighting provides an upscale touch, and the rotary shift knob is similar to what you'd find on a Genesis luxury car. In our testing, we fit eight carry-on suitcases behind the Niro hybrid's rear seats and 20 suitcases with the rear seats folded. The Niro plug-in hybrid model has less capacity because the battery takes up some of the cargo space, but we were still able to fit six pieces of carry-on luggage behind the rear seats and a total of 18 pieces of luggage.
