2024 Mercedes-AMG GT2

2024 Mercedes-AMG GT2 Review

2024 Mercedes-AMG GT2 Racer First Driver: Faster Than GT4, Lighter Than GT3
Mercedes-AMG's newest factory racer is designed to take amateur drivers up to the professional level.

The name certainly says it all. The GT2 racer version of the 2024 Mercedes-AMG GT coupe should be edgier, fiercer, and of course faster than its GT3 sibling. However, the AMG GT3 racer we drove in 2019 represents a significant step up over the GT4 version, with more power and more downforce as well as a purpose-built chassis and suspension that can be better tuned to produce the best lap times. The lower the number, the more serious the racing car is, right? Not fast.

The new GT2, the latest in a series of impeccably engineered Mercedes-AMG sports racing cars, isn't the next level above the GT3 and GT4 but is a halfway house between the two. It's a car designed to be faster than the entry-level GT4, but not as demanding at the limit as the pro-racer GT3. What's the name of the GT2? You can thank Stéphane Ratel, the French entrepreneur who has been shaping modern sports car racing since 1995.

Ratel's SRO Motorsports Group created the modern GT4 and GT3 categories, helping define the rules for the cars and organizing the races for them. In 2018 he put together a new category designed for amateur drivers who want something higher-powered than a GT4 racer but less specialized than a GT3 car. Although GT2 was planned from the start as a tweener category, Ratel deemed it commercially unreasonable to rebrand the hugely successful GT3 category, which enjoyed huge support from automakers and racing fans, just to satisfy some notion of performance hierarchy.
2024 Mercedes-AMG GT2 Engine
So, GT2 it is. And, based on our experience driving the Mercedes-AMG GT2 at the Ricardo Tormo Circuit, outside Valencia, Spain, it is indeed a midway point between the GT4 and GT3. This Mercedes has the power and performance to thrill even the most jaded GT4 driver, but it doesn't require pro-GT3 driver-level skill and commitment to deliver fast lap times.

The AMG GT2 is based on the AMG GT Track Series, the AMG GT4-derived track day monster we tested last year. Under the hood is the same 4.0-liter twin-turbo flat- and dry-sump V-8 engine, bolted via a carbon fiber torque tube to the Hewland six-speed sequential transaxle transmission used in both. GT3 and GT4 racing cars.

To comply with GT2 regulations, the engine produces slightly less power and torque than in the Track Series—697 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque, compared to 724 hp and 627 lb-ft—but it's still enough to make it the most powerful. powerful from the factory Mercedes-AMG GT racer. By comparison, the GT3's 6.3-liter naturally aspirated V-8 makes about 550 hp, and the GT4's engine, which is essentially identical to the Track Series and GT2, is tuned to produce between 400 hp and 510 hp, depending on the engine. the balance of performance regulations under which the car is racing.

Other differences between the GT2 and the Track Series (pictured just above) include a longer top gear that allows the GT2 to reach speeds of 201 mph over long distances, a new rear wing that allows more adjustability, and, most importantly, produces more downforce, plus full 18-inch wheels with racing center locks.

2024 Mercedes-AMG GT2 Exterior

The GT2 also gets engine and brake cooling upgrades, an acknowledgment that the car is intended for racing over short distances rather than just putting in a few hot laps in splendid isolation on a track day. It's true, says development driver Thomas Jäger, whose career honing race cars for Mercedes-AMG began with the SLS GT3, the GT2 can be ordered with an endurance racing package consisting of a special light system, drink system, number lighting, speed light system. engine oil refill tool and full tank display.

The multi-link suspension features racing-specification three-way adjustable shocks that are adjustable in compression and rebound, and are height adjustable. Front and rear camber settings and front and rear stabilizer bars can also be adjusted manually. The brakes use steel rotors measuring 15.4 inches at the front and 14.0 inches at the rear that are used on the GT3 and GT4 race cars. The balance bar allows the front and rear brake bias to be adjusted. As is common practice in modern GT racing, the GT2 is equipped with traction control and anti-lock brake systems, each of which can be adjusted independently in 12 settings.

2024 Mercedes-AMG GT2 Exterior side
The cockpit has the same user-friendly layout as other AMG racers. The butterfly steering wheel tilts and telescopes, and there's a center console with a large, illuminated gear switch that can be easily found and operated, even at night, with racing gloves on. The driver's seat is fixed, but a lever adjacent to the carbon fiber center console controls the spring-loaded pedal box. To get the right riding position, press the brake pedal, pull the lever, and push the pedal away from you. When they are the right distance apart, release the lever and they lock into place. These are race cars that are carefully designed to accommodate drivers of all shapes and sizes.

According to Mercedes-AMG figures, the GT2's base weight is 3,086 pounds, although its racing weight may be higher, with extra mass added to meet the balance of the category's performance regulations. That means it's about 150 pounds shy of the GT3's claimed minimum weight, so it's eye-catching when you consider you have 26 percent more power and 22 percent more torque under your right foot.

But here's where the performance calculus gets interesting: The GT2 may have more power and torque than the GT3, but it's also only 50 to 55 percent downforce, Jäger said. This makes its dynamic limits more accessible to amateur drivers, especially through fast corners, where the GT3's stiffer aero makes it harder to feel the edges of adhesion and where—because you're traveling at higher speeds than the GT2. manage—you need faster reactions to catch the car when it finally gives in to the limits of physics.
2024 Mercedes-AMG GT2 Interior
While the AMG GT3 is still arguably the most accessible GT3 race car for non-professional drivers today, it only takes a few laps to understand that the GT2 is a much more approachable machine. The growling power of the flat-plane crank V-8 turbo motor is backed by a broad foundation of torque that keeps you out of trouble when learning unfamiliar tracks. In third place, when should you be in second? Does not matter. The GT2 grunts over the top, then clears its throat and launches straight down.

As with the GT3, you can rely on the traction control, using it to learn where you need to modulate the throttle or take a better line. And it doesn't take long before you start to lower your intervention threshold a notch or two, such is the confidence GT2 quickly instills. You can brake deep into corners, accelerate hard, and you can clearly feel what the tires are doing. Fast and loud, this Mercedes, but not scary.
2024 Mercedes-AMG GT2 Wallpper
Pay attention, and GT2 will help you improve your driving skills. Every one of my 10 push laps of the Ricardo Tormo Circuit, was faster than my previous lap, and when I finally got out of the car, I knew exactly where I could easily find more time, brake deeper here, step on the gas earlier there, even before I saw the data trail behind the garage.

Remember, the same trace also shows how good the advantages are. When superimposed on mine, they reveal that Thomas Jäger stepped on the brake pedal much later, with double the pressure, and went full throttle through a corner I was still exploring for a while. But this also shows how much potential there is in GT2. In the right hands, this is a very fast and accomplished race car. “The new Mercedes-AMG GT2 is fully mature when it enters the stage, capable of immediate victory,” reads a glossy promotional brochure. It doesn't feel like empty talk.

All Mercedes-AMG racing cars are sold directly from the factory at euro prices. At current exchange rates, the GT2 will cost around $440,000 to $450,000, plus shipping and taxes. No, it's not cheap, but it's a much cheaper car to run than a full-fledged racing GT3, which in endurance racing spec now costs around $530,000 plus shipping and tax (and even if you wanted one of those, you couldn't have one because all sold out). The GT2's engine was good for nearly 25,000 miles of racing between rebuilds, says Thomas Jäger, and the transmission, pending inspection at 8,000 miles, didn't need to be touched until 11,000 miles.
2024 Mercedes-AMG GT2 Side back

The GT2 is eligible to enter the GT America series, which consists of 40-minute sprint races with a single driver, and in the 2024 Fanatec GT World Challenge America series, which begins at Sonoma Raceway in April, and includes laps at such storied tracks as Sebring, Circuit America, and Road America.

And if you don't want to race, you don't have to. If you have the money but not the time, Mercedes-AMG says the GT2 is almost perfect for track days. Almost. After selling all 55 2023 Track Series cars, Affalterbach has developed a follow-up track day weapon. It's called the GT2 Pro, and the main difference between the regular GT2 and the regular GT2 is the push-to-pass function that unleashes 739 hp when you press a button on the steering wheel.

Priced at around $520,000 for the GT2 Pro, which can't be raced at any events other than AMG-hosted special events, it's much more expensive than the standard GT2 that can be raced anywhere. But as the old saying goes, speed costs money.

2024 Mercedes-Benz EQS450 SUV

2024 Mercedes-Benz EQS450 SUV Review
With a range of almost 500 km, the EQS450 SUV is the latest addition to Mercedes-Benz's electric vehicle range.

The luxurious interior is second to none
Excellent soundproofing quality
Performance is very sharp for a large, seven-seat SUV

2024 Mercedes-Benz EQS450 4Matic SUV
Mercedes-Benz's journey towards full electrification continues. And the latest product from the German brand's electric vehicle arsenal – the 2024 Mercedes-Benz EQS450 4Matic – is also the largest luxury seven-seater electric SUV.

The sixth model in Mercedes-Benz's EQ family of electric vehicles, the EQS SUV (as the name suggests) is a high-riding version of the flagship EQS sedan, and the seven-seat electric equivalent of the GLS top large SUV.

Make no mistake, the latest addition to Mercedes-Benz's electric vehicle lineup is a big deal; a giant measuring more than five meters long and weighing almost three tons without anyone inside. It's also a big statement from the German brand, which says it plans to be completely carbon neutral by 2039, a target it calls 'Ambition 2039'.

After making its international debut in late 2022, the EQS450 SUV has landed in Australia with little fanfare and a low-key launch on the outskirts of Sydney.

2024 Mercedes-Benz EQS450 SUV Dashboard
Australia is only getting one specific variant of the five-door, seven-seat EQS SUV – the EQS450 4Matic. The price is $194,900 before travel costs and options.

At this stage, Australia is unlikely to receive the range available overseas that includes the less powerful single-motor EQS450+ or the more powerful range-topping EQS580. However, a Mercedes-Benz Australia spokesperson hinted that the luxury-focused Maybach variant of its flagship electric SUV remains in Australia.

The EQS450 4Matic we're about to get is powered by two permanently excited synchronous electric motors, one on each axle, powered by a 108kWh battery, capable, according to Mercedes-Benz, of a driving range of 483km, tested against the more realistic WLTP criteria.

Combined, the twin electric motors produce 265kW and 800Nm, capable of propelling the nearly three-tonne seven-seater SUV from 0–100km/h in 6.0 seconds, according to Mercedes. Top speed is limited to 210km/h.

The level of standard equipment on the EQS450 reflects its status as Mercedes-Benz Australia's flagship electric vehicle.

The AMG Line exterior styling package comes as standard and features 21-inch alloy wheels, an AMG front bumper (with high-gloss black inserts), wheel arch liners, side sill panels, and a rear apron.

There are AMG ‘Digital Light’ matrix LED headlights which Mercedes-Benz says “continuously and dynamically adapt to road conditions” with 1.3 million microglasses.

Inside, Nappa leather is standard, the front seats are heated and cooled, and the 12.8-inch infotainment touchscreen can host wireless (and wired) Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
2024 Mercedes-Benz EQS450 SUV Interior
There's also wireless smartphone charging, four-zone climate control, 'Airmatic' air suspension, up to 4.5 degrees rear-wheel steering, panoramic glass sunroof, 15-speaker Burmester surround sound system, a 360-degree camera, metallic paint, 'A Convenience Package Merc's acoustics or soundproofing for you and me, and a head-up display.

As with any premium market, some optional packages will cause the final price to increase quickly. The $11,700 Comfort Plus package adds the MBUX infotainment system for second-row passengers with its tablet, wireless smartphone charging pad, and two sets of wireless headphones. It also features heated seats for the second and third rows, a heated steering wheel in the front, and plush headrests in the rear.

The Hyperscreen package asks for an additional $6700 and swaps the twin infotainment and digital instrument displays for the Merc's single-panel 141cm screen that combines a 12.3-inch instrument panel, a 17.7-inch infotainment touchscreen and an additional 12.3-inch screen for the front. passengers, an impressive array of technology that is sure to impress your friends.

2024 Mercedes-Benz EQS450 SUV Exterior
There's no mistaking the interior of the EQS450 as Mercedes-Benz. It's plush and luxurious, with well-crafted materials throughout.

The front row of seats is very comfortable, with just the right amount of support in all key areas, while the headrests are filled with downy feathers and are very soft and the cushions feel welcoming and inviting.

The seats themselves are electrically adjustable, heated, and cooled with a massage function and four-way lumbar support.

Storage options include a center bin that looks capable of holding small bags, large bottles, and all kinds of rubbish we collect in everyday life. There's a pair of cup holders to keep your coffee delicious and safe, while the ample door pockets can accommodate bottles.

Sitting in the front passenger seat highlighted one glaring omission at the EQS450's local launch, certainly in the big seven-seater we called home that day.

Our specific EQS didn't come with the Hyperscreen package, and that means hyperscreen-shaped faux wood accents greet the front passengers; invisible areas of wood grain are pleasing to the eye. If anything, it only serves as a reminder that you still need to check a particular option box.

2024 Mercedes-Benz EQS450 SUV Back side
The second row mirrors the comfort levels of the first row, with plush seating that can be electrically adjusted fore and aft (up to 130mm) and tilt (by 18 degrees), meaning those in the second row can feel comfortable and comfortable.

Second-row renters not only receive separate air conditioning up front but each outboard seat is also equipped with climate control. Good.

Access to the third row is as good as we've experienced in recent times. While it may require a degree of contortion beyond most normal people to get into seats six and seven, in the EQS450 it's as easy as activating Merc's 'Easy Access' function, which electrically slides the second row of seats forward 290mm and folds down. ottomans to create gaps that all but the tallest humans can easily climb through.

Once in the third row, space is surprisingly good. Mercedes-Benz says it's ideal for people up to 150cm tall, i.e. small children, but my 173cm frame had no problem getting comfortable there, with plenty of legroom and elbow room as well as room for my feet under the second row of seats. Only the headspace was starting to feel a little compromised, but it was still unbearable. There are also air vents in the third row, although the EQS450's four-zone climate control adjustments end abruptly in the second row.

As you'd expect, using all three rows of seating will eat into the available cargo space. Mercedes-Benz claims 195 liters with the third row in use, expanding to 2100L with the second row and third row stowed, creating a flat floor that's useful for all sorts of stuff.

As has been revealed, our test car wasn't equipped with Merc's excellent (and optional) Hyperscreen infotainment setup. Instead, a standard 12.8-inch infotainment screen runs Mercedes' MBUX operating system with satellite navigation, digital radio, and a host of personalization options to make the system truly yours.

Our short time in the EQS450 at launch prevented us from playing around with the full range of MBUX features, although we know from previous experience that it can be operated via on-screen input, the steering wheel, or by voice command using the 'Hey Mercedes' command.

Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone mirror as standard, and our time using CarPlay specifically didn't reveal any problems.

The 360-degree camera offers sharp resolution and imagery, ideal for getting this large SUV into even the tightest spaces.

The Burmester 15-speaker surround sound system offers several unique features – along with Apple Music and Universal Music – including curated playlists designed to highlight the system's fidelity. Mercedes says the songs “have been specially recorded and approved for optimal playback in the Mercedes-Benz,” and while we avoided those playlists in favor of our own, the clarity of sound through the 15-speaker, 710-watt system is exceptional.

The 12.3-inch driver display features a very large, clear head-up display that projects important driving data directly onto the windshield.

The Mercedes-Benz EQS450 electric SUV has not been tested by Australian safety body ANCAP, nor has it undergone testing in its home country of Europe.

However, as my colleague Glenn Butler highlighted in his international review of the EQS450, Euro NCAP tested Merc's EQS sedan (which shares most of the same underpinnings as the EQS450 SUV) and gave it a five-star rating in 2021.

But as Butler says: “We can't simply assume that the EQS SUV will perform as well because it has a different body structure. All we know is that Mercedes-Benz has been steadfast in its commitment to safety for decades. So, if its flagship SUV scores poorly, it will come as a shock to the company and the industry.”
2024 Mercedes-Benz EQS450 SUV Wheel
What safety technologies does the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV have?
Like a luxury SUV, a full complement of Mercedes-Benz safety aids is included in the EQS450. Autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane keeping, and lane centering assist, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and traffic sign recognition are all standard.

A complement of 10 airbags covers all three rows of passengers.

For those looking to transport little ones, ISOFIX child seat mounts adorn the outboard seats in the second row, while all three second-row seatbacks are equipped with top tether points. There are no child seat restraints in the third row.

How much does it cost to maintain the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV?
The EQS450 is covered by Mercedes-Benz Australia's standard five-year/unlimited kilometer warranty.

Service intervals are 12 months or 25,000km, whichever comes first, and can be prepaid at the time of purchase – $2350 for a three-year plan, $3695 (four years), and $4280 for a five-year plan.

As new arrivals to Australia, we were unable to obtain an indicative comprehensive insurance quote.

Five-year guarantee, unlimited km
Battery warranty Eight years, 160,000 km
Service interval 12 months or 25,000km

Is the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV energy efficient?
Mercedes-Benz claims the EQS450 4Matic will achieve between 20.2 and 24.3kWh per 100 kilometers of driving depending on energy recovery opportunities and driving conditions.

On paper, those are impressive numbers for a vehicle of that size, weighing in at 2,918 kg. Add a driver or two passengers and you're looking at over 3000kg of mass to haul.

What makes it very interesting is that our launch covering a distance of 159 km in various conditions resulted in an energy consumption figure of 20kWh/100km. Before that last figure, the EQS450 showed an indication of 32.5 kWh per 100 km, after a 61 km almost exclusively uphill journey where energy was precious and the opportunity to harness electrons via regenerative braking was slim.

Once it reaches its peak, the figure drops quickly to reach 20kWh at the end of the journey.

Mercedes-Benz quotes a 10 to 80 percent DC charge time (at a maximum rate of 200kW) as fast as 31 minutes for the EQS450's 108kWh battery.

Home AC charging of up to 11kW is standard, or 22kW is an option, capable of fully charging the battery in 10 and five hours respectively.

Helping to restore range are four stages of regenerative braking, including a 'one pedal' mode that can bring the car to a halt. The different modes – D+ (coast), D (standard recovery), and D- (enhanced recovery) as well as D-Auto (which offers situationally tailored energy recovery suggestions to the driver via an on-dash display) – are accessed via the EQS450's paddle-shifters on the steering wheel.

What is the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV like to drive?
The EQS450 4Matic's driving experience is what you'd expect from a powerful heavy, seven-seater SUV.

Acceleration from a standstill is brisk or even rapid (Merc claims six seconds for the 0–100 km/h benchmark sprint). It's a bit scary when at the first opportunity, you go full throttle and feel the 3000kg electric SUV surge forward at a speed faster than most warm hatchbacks and even some hot hatches. Of course, it feels effortless when traveling, able to speed through traffic jams with ease.

But what's really impressive is how quiet the EQS450 is in the cabin. Thanks to Mercedes' standard Acoustic Comfort package that adds an excellent level of soundproofing via laminated glass and reinforced fur-lined panel inserts, the cabin of this large SUV remains quiet. A brief stint behind the wheel with the windows down served to highlight just how good the Merc's soundproofing is, arguably as good as any I've experienced. It all adds up to a relaxing time inside the EQS450, as you move around in near-silent luxury.

However, the ride isn't the last word in terms of suppleness, despite Mercedes' standard air suspension and continuously adjustable dampers, certainly on some of the rough country road sections we encountered during the test launch.

The big seven-seater remained mostly compliant under the wheel, but occasionally showed a tendency to sway and twitch, especially when faced with the uneven road surfaces that limited our driving to a great extent. Things get even better on the road, the EQS provides much more comfortable road manners as the road surface improves.

You might imagine a three-tonne high-capacity SUV wouldn't offer the best dynamic capabilities, but there's surprising agility to be found in the EQS450. Once again, the adaptive air suspension settings continue to play a role.

Selecting Sport from the SUV's Dynamic Select driving mode produces a level of firmness that works well to keep the big SUV safe and planted on the road. It still errs on the side of comfort for its passengers, but with a sharper edge that provides enough feedback to let you know that this big family lugger is well within its limits.

Rear-wheel steering plays its part, turning the rear wheels by up to 4.5 degrees to provide agility to a vehicle that, on paper, shouldn't have it. An optional upgrade to 10-degree rear-wheel steering is available for anyone who wants to drive their large electric SUV with more enthusiasm.

We're sure most buyers won't care much about the rear-wheel steering angle or that the EQS450 might feel a little uneasy on uneven roads. Instead, they'll likely enjoy decent acceleration, smooth highway cruising speeds, and the serenity of a luxurious cabin while doing it.

Should I buy a Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV?
Those looking to stand out with an electric vehicle, with a statement that says 'I am at the forefront of the EV revolution' without sacrificing luxury, look no further than the Mercedes-Benz EQS450 4Matic.

With its imposing presence matched by interior luxury as good as the latest Mercedes-Benz, this seven-seater ticks many boxes. We recommend ticking the option box for the Merc's Hyperscreen if only to reduce the tedium of looking at the huge expanse of the Hyperscreen-shaped dashboard while in the passenger seat.

However, at its core, Mercedes' latest electric vehicle is luxurious, comfortable, and quite fast, and thanks to its large battery, it can cover a driving distance of almost 500 km in the real world. This is an impressive statement from the German brand.

Mercedes-Benz "EQ"

Mercedes-Benz EQ Review
EQ offers a comprehensive ecosystem of electric mobility with products, services, technologies, and innovations. The spectrum ranges from electric vehicles and wall box chargers to charging services and energy storage units for the home.

Harbinger of the new brand is the near-production "Concept EQ" concept vehicle, which celebrated its world première in Paris. The first EQ production model in the SUV segment will be launched before the end of the decade. It will be followed by a model initiative, which will gradually supplement the product range of Mercedes-Benz Cars with electric models.
Mercedes-Benz EQ Back

EQ: clear orientation for customers.

The product range of EQ will comprise all future battery-electric powered vehicles as well as the associated products and services from Mercedes-Benz. With it, the inventor of the automobile creates an easy and transparent orientation for the customers in its constantly expanding model range. This makes the EQ brand the next logical step in the "Best Customer Experience" sales and marketing strategy.

Mercedes-Benz already offers a suitable charging infrastructure for electrified vehicles today, which includes a wall box charger as a quick charger for the home, the free "Charge&Pay“ app for convenient recharging at public stations, as well as stationary energy storage units for home-owners and companies to store electricity from photovoltaic or solar systems. All these products and services will in the future be bundled under EQ. In so doing, Mercedes-Benz establishes a consistent and clear visual appearance for sustainable products and services bearing the three-pointed star.
Mercedes-Benz EQ Interior

Show car in Paris: Concept EQ.

With Concept EQ, Mercedes-Benz demonstrates how electric vehicles will soon be able to move to the fast lane: the concept vehicle styled like a sporty SUV coupé offers a look ahead to a new generation of vehicles with battery-electric powertrain. The dynamic exterior design with its new electric aesthetic appeal underlines the focus on the powerful electric drive system: two electric motors, whose output can be increased to up to 300 kW thanks to scalable battery components, and a permanent all-wheel-drive system ensure high driving dynamics.

With a range of up to 500 kilometers as well as the hallmark Mercedes's strengths in terms of safety, comfort, functionality, and connectivity, the Concept EQ meets all requirements for modern, sustainable mobility. The vehicle also offers innovative solutions on the inside, including an entirely new interior concept. Concept EQ celebrated its world première at the Paris Auto Show. The vehicle is a harbinger of the new EQ product brand from Mercedes-Benz for electric mobility.

CASE: Connected, Autonomous, Shared, Electric.

"The mobility of tomorrow at Mercedes-Benz rests on four pillars: Connected, Autonomous, Shared, and Electric. Concept EQ brings all of this together logically," says Dr Dieter Zetsche, CEO of Mercedes-Benz Group AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars. "Zero-emission powertrains are the future. And our new brand EQ goes far beyond the electric vehicle. EQ stands for a comprehensive electric ecosystem with services, technologies, and innovations."

The new generation of electric vehicles will be based on an architecture developed specifically for battery-electric models, which is scalable in every aspect and can be used in different models.

Design with a new electric aesthetic.

"Concept EQ is hot and cool," says Gorden Wagener, Head of Design at Mercedes-Benz Group AG. "Its fascination lies in the reinterpretation of our design philosophy of sensuous clarity for an avant-garde, modern, and distinct electric aesthetic. At the same time, the design stripped down to the bare essentials of the visionary show car reveals a seductive progressivism." The monolithic basic shape of the Concept EQ combines SUV genes with a dynamic coupé character and borrows from a shooting brake at the rear.

The low-slung and elongated greenhouse creates powerful purist proportions. The new electric aesthetic is created by the flowing transition from the shiny black bonnet and the windscreen to the dark-tinted panoramic glass roof – an intriguing contrast to the aluminum silver outer skin. Hardly visible panel gaps, concealed windscreen wipers, cameras in place of side mirrors, and the elimination of conventional door handles underscore the stretched and dynamic silhouette.
Mercedes-Benz EQ Interior view

Interior: avant-garde and functional.

The driver-oriented cockpit focuses on straightforward touch-based control and an innovative electric aesthetic, which transports the exterior looks logically to the interior. The instrument panel with the large free-floating widescreen display is tailored to the driver thanks to its asymmetrical design.

The interior of the "Concept EQ“ is characterized by modern luxury evident above all in an all-new user interface – it combines emotional appeal with user-friendliness, and except for the hallmark Mercedes power seat controls does away with classic switches and buttons.

The center console with rose gold surround appears to be floating: it has no mechanical controls and instead is equipped with touch-sensitive elements. Just like the touch controls in the steering wheel, the driver operates the automatic climate control system and infotainment system with a finger.

EQ: the new e-mobility brand.

The near-production Concept EQ concept vehicle offers a look ahead to a cross-platform architecture for battery-electric vehicles. Dieter Zetsche: "The electric smart was a pioneer of electric driving in 2007. Now we are throwing the switch. We are ready to start an electric initiative, with which we will cover all vehicle segments from the compact to the luxury class."

The future models embody the essence of modern electric mobility – the combination of attractive design, extraordinary driving fun, high daily practicality, and maximum safety that distinguishes all vehicles from the inventor of the automobile.

2024 Mercedes-AMG S63 "E Performance"

2024 Mercedes-AMG Review

The debut of the 2023 Mercedes-AMG S 63 E Performance with a hybrid engine

This electrified sports sedan reaches 60 miles per hour (96 km/h) in 3.2 seconds.

The 2023 Mercedes-AMG S 63 E Performance is the newest plug-in hybrid sports sedan from the German brand.

The result is the most powerful S-Class ever available from the German automaker.

Plug-In Hybrid Power

The heart of the S 63 E Performance is a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine and an electric motor mounted on the rear axle.

2024 Mercedes-AMG Back

Total output is 791 horsepower (590 kilowatts) and 1,055 pound-feet (1,430 Newton-meters).

This fact makes the sedan reach 60 miles per hour (96 kilometers per hour) in about 3.2 seconds.

For the United States market, the AMG Driver Package is standard to provide a top speed of 180 miles per hour (290 km/h).

In the European market, this car can be accelerated to speeds of 155 miles per hour (250 km/hour).

For gasoline burning, the twin-turbo V8 engine produces peak power of 603 HP (450 kW) from 5,500 to 6,500 rpm. Maximum torque of 664 lb-ft (900 Nm) is available between 2,500 and 4,500 rpm.

The electric motor has a continuous output of 94 HP (70 kW). Peak 188 HP (140 kW) is available for 10 seconds internally. Maximum torque is 236 lb-ft (320 Nm). There's a two-speed transmission for it that shifts into second gear at around 87 mph (140 kph).

A 13.1 kilowatt-hour battery provides power for the motor. It is mounted at the rear above the rear axle.

Mercedes didn't specify an EV-only range but said the setup prioritizes fast power delivery over long electric driving range. This package has a 3.7 kW AC charger.

 Experience

The drivetrain for the ICE portion of the powertrain consists of a nine-speed automatic that sends output to the all-wheel-drive system. The rear axle has 2.5 degrees of steering.

The S 63 E Performance rides on an adaptive air suspension that has the ability to lower the car 0.4 inches (1.02 centimeters) at speeds above 75 miles per hour (121 km/h).

This suspension also has active roll stabilization which reduces body roll when cornering. Active engine mounts can soften or stiffen the mesh between the V8 and the body, depending on driving conditions.

AMG stiffened the sports sedan's structure by adding aluminum stabilizers under the V8 and cross braces for the suspension mounting points. Diagonally, aluminum struts at the rear perform the same task.

Braking duties come from 15.7-inch discs with six-piston calipers up front and 15-inch rotors with single-piston stoppers in the rear. Ceramic-composite pieces are an optional upgrade.

How It Looks

The S 63 E Performance has a slightly more aggressive appearance than the standard S-Class. The grille has a vertical arrangement.

2023 Mercedes-AMG S63 E Performance hybrid revealed, not coming to Australia

The fastest Mercedes-Benz S-Class in showrooms is now a plug-in hybrid, with 590kW and supercar acceleration – but it won't come to Australia as top-end buyers move to electric power.

The fastest version of one of the world's most luxurious cars – the 2023 Mercedes-AMG S63 E Performance – has been revealed with plug-in hybrid technology, but it won't come to Australia as high-end buyers switch to electric power.

Based on the latest S-Class range, the new S63 E Performance adopts V8 plug-in hybrid technology from AMG's GT63 S E Performance sedan, with 590kW and a 0-100km/h sprint time of 3.3 seconds.

But it won't come to Australia, as well-heeled buyers of high-end Mercedes-Benz performance limousines switch from petrol to electric power, in the new AMG EQS53 electric car.

2024 Mercedes-AMG Side view

Over the past decade, Mercedes-Benz has on average sold fewer than a dozen S63 sedans in Australia each year – but with fewer than six months in showrooms, the EQS has already chalked up 67 reported sales.

“When we had the S63 coupe and cabriolet alongside the S63 sedan, demand for the S63 range was a lot higher. But the market has shifted and we now have a more diverse range of cars in the upper echelon,” a Mercedes-Benz Australia spokesman recently told Drive.

“We’re selling more of these models [the EQS, as well as the AMG GT 4-Door Coupe, and Maybach range] than we have S63,” the spokesman said.

2024 Mercedes-AMG Pictures

“We still have high performance in a limousine, but there is now a broader choice of vehicles. And buyers are favouring these models, especially the electric EQS.”

Powering the S63 E Performance is a 450kW/900Nm 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged petrol V8 from the previous model – but it's now coupled to a 140kW electric motor, nine-speed automatic gearbox, and 13.1kWh battery pack.

Combined, the system quotes an epic 590kW and 1430Nm – good for a claimed 0-100km/h sprint time of 3.3 seconds, thanks to all-wheel drive, and a top speed of up to 290km/h.

The electric component of the hybrid system places the motor on the rear axle, driving the rear wheels directly through an electronically-controlled two-speed transmission and a limited-slip differential.

2024 Mercedes-AMG SEat

Mercedes-AMG says this system sees electric power bypass the V8's nine-speed automatic transmission – claimed to allow "the torque of both drive units can be fully utilised", and more effectively apply its power to the wheels.

As in other cars with AMG's E Performance hybrid tech – including the GT63 and new C63 – the petrol engine and electric motor can still shift their power freely around the car, as there remains a mechanical connection between the front and rear axles.

The electric motor's two-speed transmission allows it to deliver quick acceleration off the line in first gear, and shift to second at higher speeds to improve efficiency and overtaking response.

Compared to the AMG GT63 S E Performance sedan, the S63's battery is significantly larger, at 13.1kWh vs 6.1kWh – which increases electric driving range to 33km, rather than just 12km in the GT.

The battery – placed above the rear axle, and developed in conjunction with Mercedes-AMG F1 engineers – can deliver 70kW of continuous power to the electric motor, or the maximum 140kW for 10-second bursts.

2024 Mercedes-AMG Performance

This peak is 10kW lower than the GT63 S E Performance's motor – which, combined with 20kW less from the petrol engine, places the new S63's combined power output 30kW lower than its sibling.

Other highlights of the drivetrain include individual cooling for the battery cells, a mild-hybrid-style integrated starter-generator unit connected to the engine, and four regenerative braking modes (including a one-pedal mode).

There are seven drive modes – Electric, Comfort, Battery Hold, Sport, Sport+, Slippery and Individual – which vary the balance of petrol and electric power, transmission response, steering weight, suspension firmness, and exhaust sound.

The nine-speed auto is AMG's multi-clutch design – rather than the conventional torque-converter design in the regular S-Class – while the engine connects to the chassis with active mounts, which can vary their stiffness in real time.

2024 Mercedes-AMG Wheel

Under the skin, highlights include adaptive air suspension (which automatically lowers at high speeds), additional underbody bracing, 48-volt active anti-roll bars, and rear-wheel steering (with up to 2.5 degrees of rotation, down from 10 in the standard car).

The brakes measure 400mm up front (with six pistons) and 380mm at the rear (with one piston), and are available with composite discs as standard, or carbon ceramics as an option.

The S63 can be told apart on the road by a unique front end with AMG's 'Panamericana' grille and larger air intakes, 20- or 21-inch alloy wheels, new side skirts, and a restyled rear bumper with a diffuser-style insert and four trapezoidal exhaust outlets.

It's said to be the first S-Class sedan with an AMG-specific grille bearing the Mercedes-Benz star – rather than its iconic position sitting high on the bonnet.

Inside, AMG-specific touches include AMG-embossed nappa leather upholstery, an AMG Performance steering wheel with rotary controls for the drive modes, and new performance displays in the multimedia system.

2024 Mercedes-AMG Images

The instrument cluster and head-up display include their own AMG-specific views, while the AMG model offers Dolby Atmos sound technology, claimed to feed multiple audio channels to the speakers and "create a 360-degree experience".

A full suite of the latest advanced safety technology is available, including adaptive cruise control and lane-centring assist – plus, in time, Level 3 hands-free (but eyes on the road) semi-autonomous driving.

2024 Mercedes-AMG One "F1"

2024 Mercedes-AMG One Review
Finally, what we have been waiting for has arrived. Five and a half years after Mercedes-Benz first said it would bring its Formula 1 engine into a road-legal car.

And, yes, the Mercedes-AMG One is still alive and living up to all the promises Mercedes made. The point is, there is a Formula 1 engine in this vehicle and it is road legal. The engine packs a combined 1,049 horsepower (782 kilowatts) from its hybrid powertrain.

F1 Engines in Street Cars

The heart of the AMG One is undoubtedly its engine. Since it was first announced in 2017, it has been known that Mercedes is using an F1 engine for the AMG One.

It uses a 1.6-liter V6 internal combustion engine that has an incredible 11,000 rpm redline, and uses a single turbocharger with electric assistance.

The engine uses a double overhead camshaft, air spring valves, directional injection and a complex exhaust gas cleaning system to produce 566 hp (422 kW) on its own, and meets Euro 6 emissions standards.
2024 Mercedes-AMG One interior
Four electric motors combine to give the One a 1,049-hp overall rating and all-wheel-drive capability. Two motors are located up front, one on each wheel producing a combined 322 hp.

The third motor was fitted with a petrol engine, sending 161 hp (120 kW) to the crankshaft. The fourth motor is linked to a high-tech turbocharger, which Mercedes-AMG says adds 121 hp (90 kW) to the mix.

The motor can also recover energy from the turbo as the exhaust gases spin it, which can be sent elsewhere.

Electric Car with Surprising Performance

In addition to the engine, Mercedes engineers spent a lot of time on the One's lithium-ion battery. Being a plug-in hybrid, it doesn't carry as many batteries as you'd find in a pure EV – its total capacity is just 8.4 kWh.

2024 Mercedes-AMG One Performance
But keeping them cool is crucial for optimal performance, leading Mercedes to use a complex liquid cooling system for each battery. This also allows automakers to keep battery weight low.

The result is a car with more than 1,000 combined hp that maintains a battery temperature of around 45 degrees Celsius. He can walk 11.2 miles (18 km) on electricity alone, and weighs about 3,730 pounds (1,695 kilograms).

The One can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in 2.9 seconds, utilizing the AMG 4Matic+ all-wheel drive system and a new seven-speed automated manual transmission developed specifically for hypercars.

Perhaps even more impressive is the record from 0-200 km/h in just 7 seconds. AMG One can be accelerated to 219 mph, aka 352 km/hour.

Suspension and Body

The One's monocoque chassis with push-rod suspension is also designed for top performance. You'll find heavy use of aluminum under the body, with five arms and two adjustable supports at the front and rear.

The struts are mounted transversely and effectively replace traditional stabilizer bars to reduce body roll. Driving submodes can adjust the suspension to Comfort, Sport, or Sport+.

Torque vectoring with the AWD system also comes in different flavors depending on the selected driving mode.

The body greatly influences the aerodynamics of the vehicle. This produces negative lift at speeds above 31 mph, although Mercedes is shy about revealing how much downforce is available.

2024 Mercedes-AMG One Wheel

Maybe that's because it depends on the drive mode selected, as the One is awash with active aero components. You'll find an active spoiler on the front diffuser, ventilation slots on the front wheel arches, and of course the rear wing.

In the Race Plus and Strat2 programs under Track mode, Mercedes says downforce is five times higher than in normal road mode. The third mode, called Race DRS, is a low mode to reach top speed.

Interior and Features

The Formula 1 touch is not limited to the engine or suspension. Inside the AMG One, you'll find F1-style seats that provide a straight orientation to your feet.

The driver grips a rectangular F1-style steering wheel, with two 10-inch digital screens standing out from the dashboard.

However, it's not quite F1, as you'll find sweet climate control vents and speaker grilles that blend seamlessly with the carbon fiber/leather areas.

Butterfly doors are equipped with power windows. Air conditioning keeps the driver and passengers cool. And the camera replaces the traditional rearview mirror.

On the outside, the AMG One wears special ten-spoke alloy wheels with nine-spoke forged magnesium wheels as an option and is wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 M01 tires.

The tires and rims were developed specifically for the hypercar, and are equipped with six-piston calipers on 15.6-inch carbon-ceramic disc brakes at the front (four-piston calipers with 15-inch discs are at the rear).

The Mercedes-AMG One will make its public debut at the end of June at the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Furthermore, Mercedes only plans to produce 275 AMG Ones, which are estimated to cost up to 2 million US dollars (around Rp. 28.9 billion at the current exchange rate). This price is of course excluding taxes and other fees.

Car for A Luxury wedding 2023 "Mercedes-Benz S-Class"

The Mercedes-Benz S-class maintains excellence by being the full-size luxury sedan everyone values. The S-class satisfies the appetite of its well-heeled customers with heaps of fine materials, deep comfort, and lots of technology. There are two models, both equipped with standard 4Matic all-wheel drive—the S500 and S580—each with an exclusive powertrain. The S500 comes with a smooth 429-hp turbocharged straight-six, while the S580 steps up with a smooth 496-hp V-8. The S580e's plug-in hybrid produces 510 horsepower and can travel around 40 miles or more on electricity alone.

The super luxury Mercedes-Maybach S-class model, reviewed separately, offers a truly decadent experience. While the S-class' priority for comfort and luxury is evident from the thick leather seats in the front and rear rows, its standard air suspension rounds out the experience by turning the road to velvet. An optional E-Active Body Control will even tilt the car into a corner to help you avoid spilling your champagne cocktail — which you enjoy in the comfort of a reclining, power-adjustable backseat with its hot massage function. S-Class does a brilliant job of leading a good life.

The new S580e plug-in hybrid model joins this year's lineup and features a 510-hp hybrid powertrain consisting of an inline-six and an electric motor. Otherwise, life in the luxurious Mercedes-Benz S-class will be uninterrupted until 2023 with only minor changes to the available paint and finish options.

Engine, Transmission, and Performance

Mercedes offers the S-class sedan with either a 429-hp turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six-cylinder engine on the S500 or a 496-hp twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 on the S580. Both powertrains are supplemented by a 48-volt hybrid system and pair with a nine-speed automatic transmission and 4Matic all-wheel drive. The S580e plug-in hybrid uses an inline-six and an electric motor to pump out 510 horsepower; all-wheel drive is standard here as well. We've luxuriated in the S-class sedan and put our test equipment on the V-8 model, which delivered impressive acceleration. While every S-class rides on an air suspension, the optional E-Active Body Control has a "curve" function" that subtly leans the car into corners. The S-class can also be equipped with an all-wheel steering system that makes the big-bodied Merc surprisingly easy to maneuver in tight spaces.
