2023 BMW i4 eDrive35 EV Saves You Money With Less Battery, Less Motor
The latest all-electric BMW i4 is the cheapest yet while still managing decent range and performance.
BMW wants half of its new cars sold to be battery electric vehicles (BEVs) by 2030. BMW has sold more than 57,000 EVs globally so far this year alone, thanks in part to its new all-electric i4 sedan, and the party isn't stopping there. BMW just announced the introduction of the 2023 BMW i4 eDrive35, a new base-level i4 sedan with a less powerful single-drive motor and decent mileage estimates.
Rolling on 18-inch wheels, BMW estimates the eDrive35 trim will be capable of up to 260 miles of range before needing to be recharged, using the same standard EPA testing procedures (actual EPA ranges may differ once announced). The battery can be charged at up to 180 kW with a DC fast charger, increasing the battery from 10 percent to 80 percent in a claimed time period of just half an hour based on initial testing.
The new model will be capable of over-the-air software updates like its i4 sibling, adding better functionality to the updated BMW 8 Operating System running on a large curved screen in the interior. The eDrive35 also gets access to all the optional extras as the eDrive40, including larger wheels (which can negatively impact efficiency), the Shadowline dark-accent trim package, or a premium package that features things like heated seats and steering wheel.
