SUPER GT squad Tsuchiya Engineering has announced it will continue fielding the hand-built Toyota GR Supra in the
GT300 class this season, also revealing a new driver line-up. The team revealed its decision to end its participation in Japan's top sports car series on Wednesday, ahead of this weekend's Suzuka 450km.
Max Racing is set to miss the fifth round of the season after the Toyota GR Supra GT300 run by Tsuchiya Engineering suffered damage during a race at Fuji earlier this month, when it caught fire due to exhaust problems.
In a short statement, Max Racing said its decision to leave the series was influenced by the inability to source spare parts to repair its cars this season.
“Last year, following the sudden passing of team owner Tsuyoshi Oono, we were able to move forward thanks to the strong encouragement of our supporters and the desire to continue his legacy,” the statement read.
“However, due to repeated accidents last season and vehicle fires at the previous Fuji round, we were unable to obtain some damaged parts during this season.
“Given this situation, and after careful consideration, we have made the unfortunate decision to withdraw from the SUPER GT series.”
