2024 Toyota HiLux GR Sport

2024 Toyota HiLux GR Sport REview
Toyota Australia has conveniently priced its upcoming HiLux GR Sports flagship vehicle ahead of its local launch ahead of its launch in September.

The 2024 Toyota Hilux GR Sport is priced at $73,990 before on-road costs, which makes it the most expensive version of the best-selling car sold locally. It costs $3230 more than the recently updated HiLux Rogue.

As previously reported, the HiLux GR Sport is powered by a 2.8 liter four-cylinder turbodiesel engine which produces 165kW of power and 550Nm of torque. This makes the most powerful diesel-powered HiLux ever.

The turbo-diesel engine is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission that's been tuned to support extra power and torque, with drive sent via a part-time four-wheel-drive system.

The HiLux GR Sport uses the same “wide-track” platform as the HiLux Rogue, with a 15mm height increase and track width increases of 135mm at the front and 155mm at the rear.

Different front coil and rear leaf spring adjustments further differentiate the GR Sport from the rest of the HiLux range. Also equipped with KYB monotube shock absorbers with a larger piston diameter.

The rear sway bar has also been removed, allowing for greater axle articulation and ground contact on uneven surfaces.

The HiLux GR Sport comes with unique black 17-inch “Dakar style” alloy wheels wrapped in 265/65 R17 Bridgestone Dueler all-terrain tires.

At the front, there's a redesigned bumper that improves the approach angle compared to the core HiLux range and has new fog lamp bezels and silver lower moldings that sit above a uniquely developed skid plate for extra underbody protection.

There's also a unique black mesh grille that contrasts with the Toyota lettering and GR badging.

Around the sides are large black wheel arches, designed to accommodate wider track widths and also feature aero ducts at the front.

Inside the HiLux GR Sport a “rally-inspired” leather-wrapped steering wheel with paddle shifters, a red center strip, and a GR logo.

Other interior highlights include unique front sport seats covered in a mix of leather and suede, red seat belts, aluminum pedals, a “Technical Mesh” dash ornament, a GR Sport shift lever, all-weather floor mats, and a nine-speaker JBL sound system.

The Toyota HiLux GR Sport will be offered in five exterior paint colors. These include the following:

White Glacier
Opaque White
Amazing Silver
Black Eclipse
Fever Red
Glacier White, Frosted White, and Feverish Red are also available with the option of a black painted roof.
