Koenigsegg CC8S

Koenigsegg CC8S Review
The lawns of Monterey California, Koenigsegg has revealed the latest version of its CC each-New CC850 hypercar, an homage to the CC8S that launched the company 20 years ago. Now limited to 70 units produced (an increase of 20 units due to demand), the CC850 may draw on its past in some aspects such as design, but it also offers insight into Koenigsegg's future in other aspects, including the key result of driver engagement, rather than driver performance. breaking record.

Koenigsegg is no stranger to pushing the boundaries of automotive engineering, and an exciting new development fading from the CC850 is the 'Engage Shift System' transmission; one that can effectively function as a traditional h-pattern six-speed primary and a nine-speed automatic. It's based on Koenigsegg's nine-speed multi-clutch 'Light Speed Transmission' that debuted on the Jesko, and although the absolute mechanism hasn't been quite explained, the upshot is that it functions just like any other six-speed. homemade with a gear stick and clutch pedal, with an additional gate marked 'D' which then converts it to a nine-speed automatic.

Connected to the transmission is an engine that's a little easier to understand – Koenigsegg's all-amalgamation 5-liter V8 flat-plane crank with twin ceramic ball-bearing turbochargers. It's based on the unit found in the Jesko, so it shares the 92 mm drag and 95.25 mm stroke, dual outflow camshaft, and dry-sump lubrication, but features a carbon fiber input manifold and 3D-printed titanium exhaust system. As with all Koenigsegg, it will run well with E85 fuel (petrol blended with an 85 percent ethanol blend) producing up to 1365bhp at 7800rpm. On the standard high-octane ULP, this figure is reduced to 1,168 bhp at 7,500 rpm, but peak torque remains at 1,020 lb-ft at 4,800 rpm. The engine will redline at 8500rpm and the peak numbers it produces show that this is a powerful and powerful motor of the best kind.

Another package is usually Koenigsegg, which pairs a carbon fiber monocoque chassis with an all-round double-wishbone suspension. The ride height is hydraulically adjustable, with 30 mm of adjustment at the front axle and 20 mm at the rear. The dampers are also electronically adjustable, with a triplex unit mounted at the rear. There's a 20/21 inch wheel and tire package with 265/35 front and 325/30 Michelin Cup 2R rubber at the rear, behind which is a set of 410 mm front and 395 mm rear carbon ceramic brake discs with six and four pistons. calipers. Koenigsegg quotes a curb weight of 1,385 kg, giving it a metric figure of one-to-one power per kg, so it won't be too slow, but unlike the Jesko or One1, this Koenigsegg isn't about outright speed, but rather creating a more involving riding experience. Therefore, Koenigsegg has not released any official performance figures, and unlike models like the Jesko Absolut, it does not have a specific performance focus, be it lap records, acceleration times, or top speed.

Koenigsegg CC8S Side view
This can be seen in the design of the CC850, which reflects the simplicity and efficiency of the original model. It includes signature styling cues like a wraparound windshield, compact three-element lighting unit, and clean surfaces, but it's all more evolved and sophisticated. The single-sided input opening is referenced directly from the original, and along with the front splitter, skirt, and large rear diffuser work with the mechanical rear wing to keep it stable at speed without the need for a static wing. Peak downforce at 155mph is estimated at 207kg, enough to keep the car stable at speed or, ahem, around an airfield.

Koenigsegg CC8S Exterior side
Inside, the same idea of keeping Koenigsegg's design with an ultramodern twist continues, with a combination of digital and physical interfaces integrated into a familiar layout. The intricate dial set takes inspiration from high-end watches and appears to float in a backless case that you can see through to the other side.

Upon its launch, Christian von Koenigsegg said 'The response to the CC850 has been overwhelming. Producing an additional 20 units on top of the planned 50 CC850s still won't meet demand, but it does allow us to consider brand loyalists more broadly, while also welcoming a small number of new owners. Clearly, we attract the attention of connoisseurs and fans by combining our roots with new thinking and timeless designs that are unlike any other. We are humbled and grateful for the response and will do our best to exceed expectations.'

Koenigsegg CC8S ViewNo specific price has been set, but we're estimating a price point of over £2 million per unit for the lucky few if given the chance to buy one. It's difficult to try and create a hypercar brand out of nowhere in the 21st century, and while some contemporaries, such as Pagani, managed to make it happen based on the experience and provenance of its founder's work as the father of carbon fiber, Christian von Koenigsegg was against it. his chance not only to survive but to create his own dynasty which now 20 years later is worth celebrating. Not a bad 50th birthday for Mr. CvK.

Koenigsegg CC850

Koenigsegg CC850 Review

The CC850 is the ideal combination of classic design and cutting-edge technology and is engineered to be the perfect driver’s car.

Inspired by the original CC8S, the CC850 features the classic Koenigsegg silhouette, while the interior, particularly the analog chronocluster, is a work of art. Meanwhile, every innovation under the hood is designed to enhance the driving experience, including the engaged shift system (ESS) and light-speed transmission (LST).

"Clearly, we struck a chord with the connoisseurs and the fans by blending our roots with novel thinking and a timeless design that stands apart from the rest. We are humbled and grateful for the response and will do our utmost to exceed expectations."

The ESS combines a 6-speed manual gearbox, including a clutch pedal, with a fully automatic transmission with super-fast and frictionless shifting, depending on the experience the driver desires at any given moment. With the manual gearbox and clutch, the driver can feel an unparalleled connection with the car, feeling every subtlety as the rubber meets the road.

Koenigsegg CC850 Back view
With the automatic mode engaged, the driver can sit back, relax, and enjoy seamless shifting and effortless performance, while also being able to change gear ratios to experience different sensations behind the wheel.

ESS ensures the optimal driving experience while offering unmatched variety and control, and it is one of the many features that make the CC850 a truly special vehicle.

Thanks to the 1,385 bhp available from the engine, the CC850 is one of a select few megacars to boast a 1:1 power-to-weight ratio, as the entire vehicle will weigh just 1,385 kg.

This means that, while the CC850 won’t be going for any new speed records, it will offer the driver a potent combination of pure power and ultimate driveability. The car feels nimble and agile, while also being able to compete with almost anything in terms of acceleration and straight-line-speed.

The original chronocluster was designed for earlier vehicles like the CCX, and they were an innovative way to give the driver essential information about the rpm and speed in a visually appealing way. The design team has worked on the cluster continuously since those early examples, and the changes have resulted in the CC850 being the first Koenigsegg to include a true second-generation chronocluster.

The new version shows the different gear ratios, based on the engaged gear, and the rpm and speed needles change their movement speeds to account for this. Everything is designed with a classic look while ensuring that all the important information can be understood in a single glance.

It provides the driver with real visual feedback about the mechanical drivetrain and paired with the round steering wheel, the CC850 has a cockpit that includes truly modern technology and timeless designs.
The interior of the Koenigsegg CC850 is as classy and timeless as it is modern and luxurious. The most exciting feature of this new Swedish Hypercar is the transmission, or should we say transmissions.
Koenigsegg CC850 Exteriorsurprising how closely designers came to replicating the look of the CC8S in this all-new sports car. The windshield wraps the cockpit in the manner of a fighter jet and — like other Koenigseggs — the hardtop is removable. Doors feature a deep air intake to provide cooling to the rear-mounted engine, and even though the wheels are larger on the new model, they have the same “telephone dial” styling as on the original.
Koenigsegg CC850 Dashboard
Now for the really interesting part. As with the engine, the Jesko's nine-speed "Light Speed Transmission" is ported to the CC850. However, look inside the thoroughly updated cockpit and you'll see a manual gear lever in a gated six-speed box. It's not just a showpiece to sequentially change gears as you would in the Jesko, because there's also a clutch pedal for the driver to operate. But here's the thing – it's essentially an all-electronic affair. Koenigsegg ties a clutch pedal operation and mechanical gear changes to the multi-clutch nine-speed gearbox.

The result is something Koenigsegg calls the – wait for it – TWMPAFMPC transmission.

That alphabet soup of a name stands for The World's Most Powerful And Fastest Manual Production Car. In manual mode, the CC850 drives like a car with a normal manual gearbox. The clutch is required to shift gears, and if you bog the launch like you did learning to stick on your brother's Ford Escort, it will stall.
Only six speeds of the nine-speed transmission are available at any given time, however, the specific gears will vary depending on the drive mode. As such, all nine speeds will be accessible. You'll just have to switch modes to get to them. Or, if you just want to cruise, move the lever all the way to the right for automatic mode. In that position, the drive is down with all forward gears available. The reverse is at the top.

Koenigsegg CC850 Performance

As for performance, Koenigsegg isn't ready to share specific stats just yet.

With less power than the Jesko, it won't be competing for ultimate top-speed titles but with more than double the power of the original CC8S, it should be supremely fast. It will also be supremely rare, as Koenigsegg will build just 50 examples to commemorate the 50th birthday of the company's founder, Christian von Koenigsegg. Pricing and availability will be announced later.

Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut

Most social media posts remind you about that time your dog did something funny. Koenigsegg's remembers the time it cracked a 277.8mph two-way average to become the fastest production car in the world.

And while celebrating the heroics of the astonishing Agera RS, Koenigsegg confirmed that in due course, its new heavyweight challenger – the 1,600bhp Jesko Absolut – will absolutely go for a shot at the title.

“The Agera RS was built to excel on the track,” read the post. “Amazingly, it also managed to become the fastest homologated production car by setting a new top speed world record on the 7th November 2017 in Pahrump, Nevada.

“On the same day, the Agera RS also broke two other records: 0-400-0kmh record, which was later beaten by the Regera, and the record for the fastest car recorded on a public road. This record had stood for 79 years and 8 months prior to the Agera RS taking the crown.

“And yes, the Jesko Absolut will challenge these records in due time.”

That's always been the plan, of course. Upon the Jesko Absolut’s launch back in 2020 at the then-cancelled Geneva Motor Show, boss Christian von Koenigsegg said: “It is the fastest Koenigsegg ever made and the company will never venture to make a faster series-production road car, ever.”

The Jesko Absolut's silhouette will play a key part in this endeavour, thanks to a slimmed, low-drag, long-tail body compared to the track-sharpened Jesko Attack. Faired-in wheels, a lower ride height and closed-off front air ducts all help achieve an official drag coefficient of 0.278Cd.

What'll also help the Absolut is a thumping great turbocharged V8 which – when matched with E85 fuel – is capable of smashing out 1,600bhp.

“Simulations say this will go way past our target of 500kph or 310mph,” CvK told TopGear.com at the car's launch. “The limits are tires, location and sanitation. We are looking into how and where we can see how fast it can really go.”
