2024 Acura Integra Type S

Acura Integra Type S Review
After showing several teasers, Acura finally launched the new Acura Integra Type S car in the United States (11/4). The Acura Integra Type S is here as the sportiest and most powerful variant of the Acura Integra as well as being a new car in Acura's Type S lineup. "The new Acura Integra Type S brings the Turbo Type S performance and gateway design to our brand," said Emile Korkor, Acura Assistant Vice President of National Sales. Considering that the newest Integra is a close sibling to the Civic, the new Acura Integra Type S car has much in common with the Honda Civic Type R.

The first similarity lies in the four-cylinder turbo engine with a capacity of 1,996 cc capable of producing 320 hp and 420 Nm of torque in the Integra Type S.

The engine-coded K20C1 channels its wild power and torque to the front wheels via a 6-speed manual transmission. Apart from that, the Integra Type S and Civic Type R both have Brembo brakes and 19-inch rims wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires. However, apart from the engine, transmission, and engine, the Acura Integra Type S gives the impression of being more luxurious and mature than the Type R.

The return of the maximum performance version at Acura is consolidated by the presence of the most powerful Integra in its history. Titled Type S, this car displays its power to start and experience a sportier driving experience.

The Integra Type S has elements that enable efficient driving such as a limited-slip differential, an adaptive damping system, and 13.8" ventilated Brembo disc brakes on the front wheels and 12" solid disc brakes on the rear wheels with Anti-Lock System. Brakes ( ABS).

Replaces the 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine with a 2.0-liter turbo, with 16 valves direct injection, with 315 hp and 310 lb/ft of torque for maximum performance.

Its powertrain is focused on sporty acceleration with a DOHC VTEC ® turbo engine mated to a 6-speed manual transmission with rev-matching control, positioning it as an instinctive sports car.

In addition, it is equipped with a MacPherson-type Adaptive Suspension System (ADS) with double axles at the front and multi-link at the rear, producing the highest performance and providing smooth handling when driving.

The integrated dynamic system (IDS) is designed to experience maximum performance with 4 driving modes:

2024 Acura MDX SH-AWD SUV

Acura MDX SH-AWD Review

The 2024 Acura MDX is a premium three-row SUV for drivers who value athletic handling over luxury.

A 290 hp V-6 engine powers most models and makes a lot of noise. Every MDX provides an enjoyable experience for those behind the wheel, but this is especially true of the sportiest Type S trim, which comes standard with all-wheel drive, a 355-hp turbocharged V-6 and an adjustable air suspension system. Seating is spacious for adults in the first and second rows, but the rear row of the MDX is only suitable for children. The interior design is classy and offers several nice tech features, but if you're looking for luxury and top-of-the-line materials, you'll be better served by competitors like the Genesis GV80, Mercedes-Benz GLE-class, and Volvo. XC90. Acuras are cheaper than the alternatives, so if you're not fussy, they'll save you a lot of money and bring a more satisfying driving experience to your driveway.

Acura MDX SH-AWD Interior

Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

The MDX's cabin has a premium look and feel, especially in the upscale trim, which features French-stitched leather on the dash and open-pore wood mixed with metal and piano-black accents. Acura also equips the MDX with plenty of creature comforts, such as dual-zone automatic climate control, heated front seats, and leather upholstery. The front seats are supportive and comfortable and can be equipped with amenities such as 16-way power adjustment and massage. The first and second rows offer ample passenger space, but the MDX's third row is still reserved for children. While the interior is well-designed and offers plenty of comfort options, the cabin doesn't feel as luxurious as those of competitors like the Genesis GV80 or Volvo XC90.
Acura MDX SH-AWD Exterior

Engine, Transmission, and Performance

The regular MDX is powered by a 290-hp 3.5-liter V-6 engine mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard, with all-wheel drive available as an option. The sporty Type S model is powered by a 355-hp turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 engine and comes standard with all-wheel drive. Our test drive of the all-wheel-drive Advance model with the standard powertrain revealed surprisingly nimble handling and excellent acceleration. When we sampled the Type S, we praised it for its similarly nimble feel on the road and appreciated its extra power, but wondered whether the model deserved its Type S badge. However, the Type S is much quicker than the standard model, and on our test track, it took just 5.5 seconds to reach 60 mph while the less powerful variant needed 6.4 seconds.

Real World Fuel Economy and MPG

The base MDX offers EPA fuel economy ratings of 19 mpg city and 26 mpg highway; The Type S is rated at 17 mpg in the city and 21 mpg on the highway. On a fuel-efficient 75 mph highway route, our all-wheel-drive A-Spec test vehicle returned a disappointing 22 mpg. The Type S model does slightly better and returns 23 mpg. For more information about the MDX's fuel economy, visit the EPA website.

Infotainment and Connectivity

The 2024 MDX features a large 12.3-inch infotainment screen with a center console-mounted touchpad controller, which we're afraid to report is a bit frustrating to use. A reconfigurable 12.3-inch digital gauge display is also standard, as are Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capabilities, in-dash navigation, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and a wireless smartphone charging pad. An ELS Studio stereo system is included on the Technology trim while A-Spec and Advanced models get a 16-speaker ELS Studio 3D setup.

The 2024 Acura ZDX EV

2024 Acura ZDX EV Promises Precise Design, Google Infotainment
Acura's first electric vehicle gets a lighted nose and help from Google and GM for technology.
Despite the many spy photos of the upcoming 2024 Acura ZDX all-electric SUV, there's still a lot left to the imagination, and we're curious to see how the luxury brand handles the packaging and design opportunities presented by the more expansive interiors of electric vehicles. that we haven't seen from Acura yet.

A teaser of the new ZDX proves that it's inspired by the brand's Precision EV Concept car, and we know it will borrow Ultium motor and battery components from General Motors for its powertrain (before future Acura EVs pivot to a different platform).

We can't conclude much from the teaser, except that it lives up to a modern interpretation of Acura's luxurious yet sporty design language. The teaser confirms the Diamond Pentagon grille will light up, and Acura promises the new EV will feature Google infotainment integration for apps and services, as well as a Bang & Olufsen premium audio setup. The teaser announcement also promises the ZDX Type S performance variant will be the "most powerful and fastest acceleration SUV" in Acura history.

The ZDX EV, which was designed at the Acura Design Studio in Southern California, will be revealed in full at Monterey Car Week on August 17, and go on sale officially sometime early next year. Acura's press release also promises: "All Acura vehicles sold in America are made in the U.S., using domestic and globally sourced parts."

2024 Acura ZDX

Acura begins its journey into the electric future by resurrecting a name from its past: ZDX. Unlike the original ZDX, which debuted for the 2010 model year with fastback styling that was arguably ahead of its time, the new 2024 ZDX SUV will sport a more traditional two-box SUV shape. The new SUV was previewed by the Precision EV Concept which debuted at the 2022 Monterey Car Week event. The concept's styling is attractive, with a floating roof, smooth body sides and an illuminated grille. The interior features elements we don't think a production car would be able to, including a narrow yoke-style steering wheel and a transparent infotainment system. On the practical side, the ZDX is the product of a partnership between Acura's parent company Honda and General Motors; The ZDX will use GM's Ultium battery. Previous reports said that the Acura would be built alongside the Cadillac Lyriq SUV at GM's Springhill, Tennessee, assembly plant. That gives us a hint of what will power the ZDX: a 340-hp rear-mounted electric motor in base trim, with a possible 500-hp all-wheel drive variant offered as an upgrade—perhaps sporting a Type S badge.

EV Motors, Power, and Performance If the Cadillac Lyriq—the ZDX's surprising platform mate—is anything to go by, we expect to see rear-wheel-drive powertrain options and everything from 340 to 500 horsepower. Acura has confirmed that the ZDX Type S is part of the plans, and it may be an all-wheel drive variant with a higher horsepower rating. No details have been released yet, but we'll find out closer to the ZDX's on-sale date. Interior, Comfort and Cargo We expect the production ZDX to get a more conservative interior design than the Precision EV Concept car. The concept's yoke-style steering wheel will likely be replaced with a regular, circular one. A two-row seating layout is likely and we expect premium interior materials and perhaps some eco-friendly textiles to enhance the ZDX's green appeal.

Acura SLX

Built for Radwood, this reimagined SUV is an example that makes the case for confronting one's shortcomings with overwhelming positivity.

The Acura SLX is a strange, nearly forgotten footnote in the automaker's history. Rolled out for the 1996 model year and defunct after 1999, the SLX was, like the Lexus LX and Infiniti QX4, an attempt to cash in on the burgeoning luxury SUV craze. But since Acura didn't have the resources, know-how or time to build a traditional truck from the ground up, it turned to Isuzu, which offered up its boxy Trooper SUV to be rebadged and modestly upgraded.
Unfortunately, the Trooper—and by extension, the SLX—was targeted (some say unfairly) by Consumer Reports for having a high rollover risk. This likely killed any chance of success the SLX may have had. And anyway, once the MDX arrived, the badge-engineered dead-end that was the SLX was seemingly relegated to "we shall never speak of this again" territory.

But you can either pretend your past didn't happen, or you can engage with it on your own terms. With its Super Handling SLX, Acura is doing the latter; it's an in-house restomodded (when did we start restomodding '90s cars?) 1997 SLX with a stock appearance that belies the comprehensive upgrades lurking under its ruler-straight sheetmetal.

It's headed to Radwood’s Orange County event—the perfect venue for this self-aware reflection on Acura's corporate history—on Dec. 7. We expect (and hope) to see it out and about after that.

It's painted in a current performance red pearl with '90s-spec champagne silver accents; the wheels are custom, retro five-spokes from Fifteen52. The stance is just right. If you didn't know better, you might guess it was stock, at least until you get to the mechanicals.

The SLX is a conventional body-on-frame SUV, and you'd think that its relative simplicity would make a complete powertrain upgrade straightforward. Not so: Instead of swapping the SLX's original 3.2-liter V6 for a modern Acura six-cylinder, the Acura team transplanted a good chunk of a new RDX's drivetrain into the boxy SLX. That means a modified and tuned 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four in the engine bay—transverse-mounted, mind you—and Acura's modern SH-AWD system sending power to all four wheels rather than a conventional transfer case-equipped 4x4 setup.

The swap gives the truck 350 hp and 340 lb-ft of torque (compared to the original, mighty 190 hp and 188 lb-ft) and trades the original four-speed automatic for a 10-speed. More importantly, the suspension has been totally upgraded; the original front double-wishbone and rear solid axle have been swapped for McPherson struts and an independent five-link suspension, respectively.

The result is an arguably less rugged truck, but one that is far less likely to flip over if driven aggressively. Consider it a tacit acknowledgment by Acura of one of the SLX's biggest shortcomings.

This is not the sort of project we'd ever think of taking on—this isn't the sort of project we’d ever think of, period—but we appreciate the build's thoroughness and subtle sense of humor. Acura's video on the Super Handling SLX (which you can watch below) is extremely cheesy but entirely in the spirit of Radwood. The car's former owner, Tyson Hugie, guest-stars as the guy selling the SLX. Very meta.
