Since its presentation, it is hoped (and promised) that this Fiat Strada generation will carry the 1.0 turbo engine from Stellantis. And here's the big news from the 2024 compact pickup line, which will be available in two top-of-the-line versions with exclusive looks to mark these more powerful engines.
With the T200 engine, the Fiat Strada competed with the Chevrolet Montana, its main competitor in this price range and customers looking for a double-cab pickup truck, even though the Montana was larger. We've driven the new 2024 Fiat Strada T200 and shown what changes have occurred to the pickup to accept engines up to 130 hp and 21.4 kgfm.
What is Fiat Strada Turbo?
Positioned above the 1.3 Firefly aspirated engine, the Fiat Strada receives the T200 engine, 1.0 turbo, 3 cylinders, with direct injection and MultiAir valve system. Power is 125 hp with petrol and 130 hp with ethanol, with torque of 21.4 kgfm from 1,750 rpm. The engine is the same as the one in the Pulse and Fastback, but with different response adjustments for the Strada, even though the power and torque figures are the same. The transmission is a CVT automatic, with 7-speed simulation.
According to Inmetro, petrol consumption is 12.1 km/liter in the city and 13.2 km/liter on the highway. With ethanol respectively 12.1 km/liter and 8.3 km/liter. Published acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h is 9.8 seconds on petrol and 9.5 seconds on ethanol - figures we will confirm in full testing in the future.
To achieve this more powerful engine, engineers brought in new, stronger springs and shock absorbers, new electric steering arrangements and improved front brake calipers, all of which support the ability to drive with more power - given that they are not based on the same Pulse and Fastback , which already using this machine. In fact, this 1.0 turbo engine is already a bit cramped in the Strada vault.
To differentiate itself visually, the Strada Ranch and Ultra received a new front bumper, with a prominent honeycomb grille and LED fog lights very similar to the Pulse. According to the brand, this enhances the wide and sturdy feel of the pickup, but it is exclusive to both versions, at least for now. Inside, a new steering wheel that will be present on all versions.
How is the Fiat Strada Turbo?
The turbo engine on the Strada has been eagerly awaited since its launch, especially by those who are used to the previous generation with the 1.8 Naturally Aspirated engine. With a naturally aspirated 1.3 engine, this is already a great pickup truck to drive, but the new engine gives it the breath it needs at times, especially when used on the highway or with cargo.
In two versions focused on leisure use, the Strada T200 even pulls behind the wheel. Adjustments made to match the engine to the suspension and steering make the package stiffer, but allow for better response, including more responsive braking. The power of 130 hp and 21.4 kgfm at low revs, with the help of a CVT transmission, makes this pickup accelerate and regain speed with a greater breath than the previous generation 1.8.
