Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut

Most social media posts remind you about that time your dog did something funny. Koenigsegg's remembers the time it cracked a 277.8mph two-way average to become the fastest production car in the world.

And while celebrating the heroics of the astonishing Agera RS, Koenigsegg confirmed that in due course, its new heavyweight challenger – the 1,600bhp Jesko Absolut – will absolutely go for a shot at the title.

“The Agera RS was built to excel on the track,” read the post. “Amazingly, it also managed to become the fastest homologated production car by setting a new top speed world record on the 7th November 2017 in Pahrump, Nevada.

“On the same day, the Agera RS also broke two other records: 0-400-0kmh record, which was later beaten by the Regera, and the record for the fastest car recorded on a public road. This record had stood for 79 years and 8 months prior to the Agera RS taking the crown.

“And yes, the Jesko Absolut will challenge these records in due time.”

That's always been the plan, of course. Upon the Jesko Absolut’s launch back in 2020 at the then-cancelled Geneva Motor Show, boss Christian von Koenigsegg said: “It is the fastest Koenigsegg ever made and the company will never venture to make a faster series-production road car, ever.”

The Jesko Absolut's silhouette will play a key part in this endeavour, thanks to a slimmed, low-drag, long-tail body compared to the track-sharpened Jesko Attack. Faired-in wheels, a lower ride height and closed-off front air ducts all help achieve an official drag coefficient of 0.278Cd.

What'll also help the Absolut is a thumping great turbocharged V8 which – when matched with E85 fuel – is capable of smashing out 1,600bhp.

“Simulations say this will go way past our target of 500kph or 310mph,” CvK told TopGear.com at the car's launch. “The limits are tires, location and sanitation. We are looking into how and where we can see how fast it can really go.”
